Concentrate Vaporizer Review
Puffco Pro 2 Review
The Puffco Pro 2 is the latest vaporizer out by vaporizer company Puffco. They have been known for making some solid products and this one does not disappoint.
Design
The Puffco Pro 2 is an extract vaporizer and it uses a single coil atomizer with a ceramic wick. On first appearance the package seems to be of high quality. The black clam shell case is a muted Matte Black and has a foam interior that holds the vaporizer parts snug. What you get in the box is the battery unit, atomizer, mouthpiece, charger, packing tool and instruction manual.
The unit itself is constructed of a brushed stainless steel and has a rubberized bottom. I was a little disappointed to find that the bottom of the vaporizer no longer lights up. I thought this was a cool feature on the original Puffco Pro and would liked to have seen it continued throughout their product line. The feel of the Puffco Pro 2 is a little light in the hand, especially when compared to its beefy older brother. I prefer a vaporizer to have a bit more heft on it, but that’s just my opinion man (The Big Lebowski 1998). The durability of this product seems apparent. The unit is well built even if on the lighter side. I dropped this product onto the concrete from a height of 3 feet and the Puffco pro 2 came through fully functional (although a little scratched up).
Design Score 16/20
Taste
Taste is a big component for me when I review vaporizers. The Puffco Pro 2 delivered average taste. Although the Puffco Pro 2 produces large vapor clouds (discussed in the next section), the taste was average. I caught a slight hint of a metallic flavor from the atomizer with a big long hit. I find this to be a common taste issue with any atomizer that uses a titanium coil. I prefer the newer disc atomizers with no coils coming into contact with my extract. It seems that the Puffco Pro 2 was designed for cloud chasers as opposed to Terpene Connoisseurs such as myself which is a shame as I really wanted to like this pen.
Taste Score 11/20
Vapor Production
Vapor production is where this little unit shines. The Puffco Pro 2 puts out a large amount of vapor on the higher of the three levels. The clouds were thick and white and dissipated relatively quickly. The smell on this vaporizer hangs in the air for about 10 seconds before completely dissipating. If you are a cloud chaser than this may be a good contender for you.
Vapor Production Score: 18/20
Functionality
The functionality of this pen is good. Simple one button interface, 4 clicks to cycle temperature, 5 clicks to turn the unit on and off, and 2 clicks for session mode. Although a cool feature, I have not much used the Puffco Pro 2 in session mode, I find it wastes a lot of my extract. I prefer the on demand feel you get from simply pressing the button.
Airflow is a problem with the Puffco Pro 2. Since the airports are located below the atomizer there is a tenancy for them to clog. Airflow feels to be a bit on the restricted side. There is a silicone splash guard on the interior of the mouthpiece that helps keep wax out of the mouthpiece portion. Although the silicone splash guard is an interesting idea, I don’t really like the idea of adding silicone to the air path when medical grade stainless is a better alternative. The Puffco Pro 2 is built to hold larger capacities of extract and not for connoisseurs like myself so I will say it does perform well in that respect.
Functionality Score: 16/20
Health Consciousness
For health consciousness, the Puffco Pro 2 doesn’t fair as well as others in my opinion. Although constructed from stainless steel, medical grade stainless steel would be even better. I like a vaporizer that has that sterile feel, after all, we are trying to medicate here right? The mouthpiece is another negative on the Puffco Pro 2. It is made of the same stainless steel as the rest of the body which is not my preference. The Cannabis vaporizer industry seems to be headed in the glass mouthpiece direction and I welcome this shift. They taste better and are easier to clean. Finally, the vapor coming out of the Puffco Pro 2 is hot and rough. If you have lung issues, this hot rough vapor may irritate your throat a bit and a water bubbler may be needed.
Health Consciousness Score: 15/20
Overall Score: 76
The Puffco Pro 2 is a solid device if you only want to catch a high while out and about. The vapor quality is thick and it does the job. If you are looking for taste than you may want to skip this device. I think that Puffco took a bit of a step backwards when using a ceramic coil again. The industry has moved past coils and for good reason…the taste. The price is a little on the high side coming in at $74.99. Try one out for yourself if clouds are what you seek. Linx Hypnos Zero Review – Where Style Meets Functionality
The Linx Hypnos Zero is the flagship vaporizer of Linx Vapor, a company known for producing quality, healthy vaporizers. It’s a sleek, portable, futuristic looking concentrate vaporizer but does it do the job? Lets dive in!
Design
The Linx Hypnos Zero is a self loading concentrate vaporizer constructed from medical grade stainless steel. It boasts a Borosilicate glass mouthpiece, adding to the flavor by removing plastics or metals from the equation. One of the high points of the Linx Hypnos Zero is the sheer portability and discretion it affords with its tiny size. Measuring in at just 107mm tall, the Linx Hypnos Zero is easy to conceal, literally fitting in the palm of your hand. The device its self feels like a quality unit, it doesn’t feel plastic or chintzy in any way. The durability of the Linx Hypnos Zero is apparent, it’s a well built vaporizer with incredible attention to detail. The machining on the threads is tight and buttery smooth, the Zero feels more like a medical device than it does a run of the mill vaporizer.
One downside of the Linx Hypnos Zero is the mouthpiece. Now don’t get me wrong, I love the use of Borosilicate glass over plastic or metal, but it needs a mouthpiece cap. I am worried that if I accidentally drop this unit, the mouthpiece will shatter. I am thinking the people over at Linx felt the same way, that’s why they put an extra mouthpiece in the case. That’s good thinking but I would much rather have a magnetic mouthpiece cap. All things considered, Linx Vapor did very good job with the design of the Zero.
Design Score 18/20
Taste
The taste coming off the Linx Hypnos Zero is spectacular! The Zero uses a ceramic plate atomizer instead of a coiled atomizer. This ceramic plate allows for low temperature vaporization, around 300°-400°F. This means you get a very flavorful hit with light wispy vapor. As I touched on before, the glass mouthpiece adds to the tasting experience in a big way. A plastic or metal mouthpiece tends to add a bit of an unnatural flavor to my Cannabis concentrate. Glass is definitely the way to go, no impurities and easier to clean, yet another reason why the Linx Hypnos Zero is one of the best tasting vaporizers I’ve every tried.
Taste Score 19/20
Vapor Production
The vapor produced from the Linx Hypnos Zero is light to medium, not as thick and white as other vape pens but that’s exactly what they’re going for. If you are looking to make some huge clouds, then you may want to skip this pen. The Linx Hypnos Zero was developed with the Terpene Connoisseur in mind.
Vapor Production Score: 15/20
Functionality
The functionality of the Linx Hypnos Zero is nice and simple. 5 clicks to turn the unit off and on. Click 3 times to choose between the four temp settings: Blue=Low, Green=Medium-Low, Yellow=Medium-High, and Red=High. I find that these temperature setting are set just right, the lower levels allow me to savor the flavor. If you really want to taste those amazing terpenes locked inside your Cannabis, this is the way to go. The higher levels provide stronger hits without the burning taste that’s typical of most other vaporizers. One huge advantage of the Zero is the clean up. Cleaning the Zero is surprisingly simple. Since the components are constructed from medical grade stainless steel and use no paints, you can simply pop them into some iso alcohol and let them soak for an hour or so. After soaking simply wipe away excess with a cotton swab. That’s really all there is too it. No need for bells an whistles, the Zero does on thing and does it well.
Functionality Score: 18/20
Health Consciousness
For health consciousness, the Linx Hypnos Zero performs like a champ! I was blown away by the attention to detail put into this device to ensure it was the healthiest on the market. From the glass mouthpiece, to the all ceramic atomizer, to the toxin free vapor path and finally the medical grade stainless steel shell, the Linx Hypnos Zero ranks very high on the list of healthy vaporizers.
Health Consciousness Score: 20/20
Overall Score: 90
The Linx Hypnos Zero is a wonderful little vaporizer for the Terpene Connoisseur. Don’t expect big clouds with this one because it’s a flavor monster! The heat settings are calibrated for optimal flavor and the ceramic plate atomizer heats the concentrate consonantly. The Zero claims to be one of the healthiest vaporizers available and I believe it. The medical grade stainless steel body and glass mouthpiece make this an excellent unit and the price tag is not too shabby either. Coming in at just $79.99 its one of the least expensive vaporizers in its class. Thanks for reading and be on the look out for more vape reviews.
